An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is an important instrument used by organizations to certify the performance of new fiber optics links and detect problems with existing fiber links.

With the rapid advancements in fiber optic technology, OTDR testing methods have become indispensable to building, certifying, maintaining and troubleshooting fiber optic systems.

SKYSHL provides a new Optical Time Domain Reflectometer(OTDR)--SS315T series. They are used to measure the fiber length and overall optical attenuation in a circuit. The analyzed data provides insight into the integrity of the fiber and any passive optical components (such as connectors, splices, splitters, and multiplexers) transmitted along the cable path.

OTDR Test Curve and Event Type

OTDR test curve images (“Traces") contain more information than a thousand words.

The slope of the fiber trajectory indicates the attenuation factor of the fiber, which OTDR expresses in dB/km. Connectors, solder joints, small bends, flanges, adapters, fiber splitters, breaks, etc. in a fiber link are called "events" in OTDR.

Adjusting the pulse width changes the resolution of the OTDR's test curve. You cannot see two events that are closer than the pulse width. In general, you can see fiber traces over longer distances using longer pulse widths, while you can adjust to narrower pulses when high resolution is needed. Although high resolution limits the test distance, you can see more accurate data.

As a result, all test data can be represented by test graphs and we can understand the test results very clearly and easily.

Built-in OTDR OPM OLS and VFL

When installing or maintaining fiber optic projects, fiber optic engineers often need to carry a variety of fiber optic test equipment to check the performance of fiber optic links or detect fiber optic link faults.

SKYSHL SS315T-2B1 integrates four of the most commonly used fiber optic test instruments, such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometer OTDR (OTDR-1310nm+1550nm/35dB+33dB), Visual Fault Locator (VFL-2km), Optical Power Meter OPM-850-1650nm/-60~+3dB) and Light Source (OLS- 1310nm+1550nm).

Fiber engineers no longer need to be equipped with a variety of fiber inspection equipment when installing and maintaining fiber optic projects, they can simply use the SS315T to do all the work.

Event Map/Graphics Analysis Mode

Although the operation and usability of the OTDR has been greatly simplified over the years, it is still considered an advanced operating tool and the analysis of its results can be complex. To make fiber optic testing easier for users, the SS315T includes an "Graphics Analysis/Event Map" feature that removes the complexity from OTDR testing and results analysis.

Graphics Analysis/Event Map automatically identifies the associated fiber optic link environment and utilizes advanced intelligent optimization algorithms to analyze the loss and faults of all passive elements in the fiber optic link and displays all fiber optic elements in a very simple icon-based view that can be understood by technicians of any skill level.

The Event Map feature simplifies the complexity of fiber optic testing operations and results analysis, bringing a whole new operational experience to fiber optic engineers.

Smart APP Software(Only for Android now!!!) and Windows Software

With the coming of the intelligent era, the combination of OTDR and smart devices is the future development trend, making full use of the high convenience of smart devices, and bringing a new way of operation for users.

SS315T can connect OTDR and Android device/computer through APP module, and test, view, share, analyze and save the curve through Android APP and computer software.

Meanwhile, through the third-party remote control software, combined with Android APP application/Windows software can easily realize real-time remote real-time viewing of test data, remote test operation, and remote result analysis.

Since the test data is stored in the smart mobile device or computer, the test data and test report can be shared quickly and seamlessly to all relevant personnel.
